i like the language Dr. Z uses about radiation: "We'll keep firing away at it" or "It will be dead by the time we remove it at surgery". This place is a Battle Zone, the doctors and their staff are the warriors. Their weapons are knowledge, scapels, drugs and these incredible machines:
Dr. Gilbert Fletcher, known as the "Father of modern Radio-Therapy", was a doctor here at M.D Anderson.
I took this from an interesting article about him:
"A French-born physician, Dr. Fletcher joined the fledgling M. D. Anderson staff in 1948 as director of radiotherapy. He opened a basement clinic in temporary quarters of an old family estate and soon began building a model of the first cobalt-60 unit that would dramatically change the outlook for cancer patients around the world."
THANK YOU DR. FLETCHER!!!

That was very interesting. I found all that machinery fascinating myself. Thanks for enlightning us. And I love that older picture. That thing is pointed at that guy's head! You have a wonderful intellectual curiosity.

I feel like a fool. Upon closer examination, i think that is a lady (in Darlene parlance) under the machine.
