So long, Scabs!

this has been the busiest week i've had since surgery 7 weeks ago: THANK GOD! I've begun Physical Therapy, been to Houston for my last 6 week check-up and I've got PT again tomorrow. In between all that, i've also squeezed in a hair appointment, a few errands and an educational tour of Millard's crossing with the lil' one and my Mo-in-La. It was a beautiful day to be outside and be alive!

Sooo....the best thing to note about my trip to Houston, aside from the fun company of Cynda Ambulance, was how the Docs made my Knee look less Frankenstein-like. I didn't realize it, but the scabs were way ready to come off. They said i could go home and SCRUB them, or tweeze them off(!)...well, I guess the look on my face indicated that i wasn't that comfortable with that idea because they ended up having a Physician's Assistant come in and take care of that for me.

As she was peeling off these huge, crusty, unattractive scabs, the stitches were coming out with them. I tolerated about 2/3 of it being cleaned up and told her i could handle the rest at home. It was an odd sensation because i didn't feel a thing where the new skin is, but the surrounding area was pretty sensitive after some tugging and cutting. I surprised myself today because i really was able to snip and pull the rest of the stitches, without any problem. There were only about 3 or 4 left, with a few scabs...but now it is all clean and skin-colored. It wasn't long ago that i couldn't even LOOK at this thing, let alone really closely examine it like i did today.

As far as the Physical Therapy goes, I was pleasantly surprised to begin with some exercises on the day i had my initial consultation. I was assigned some "homework" exercises, which have already helped. When she first measured the degree to which i could bend, it was a mere 30. After several stretches, I got up to 35. By the time I left, i was at 40 degrees--watch out! I think it will be more than that tomorrow since i've been working on it at home everyday.

We'll see tomorrow...i'll report back!
Over and out, dear readers.
