Last weeks new friends..

...getting caught up today while its raining outside. I'm still sitting at MD Anderson, much like i did last Monday but in a supremely better mood. My visit home was awesome, full of quality family time and seeing most of my friends at a FUN Baby Shower.

Last Monday was full of the Bad Mood Reflecting, and i never actully got around to writing about how that day/ mood ended. I believe i left off writing in one blog about a Doctor who was listening to the quartet next to me, and he got up to move a chair for an elderly lady. I wrapped up my writing that day because i ended up talking to them.

His name is Patrick and it turns out that he runs the Blood Center..(.i thought he was a doctor because he wore a similar Lab Coat.) I don't really remember what began the conversation, but at some point he was sharing a story about a friend recently diagnosed and began to get emotional. Since I had had such a moody day thus far, i was ready to lose it just listening to him. I finally did break down when he asked me where i was from and how old my little boy was.

So- here we were, two basket cases, whose paths "happened" to cross when we needed someone to lend an ear. He had to get back to work, but stopped off to talk to the little lady he had gotten a chair for earlier. He then introduced me to an 80 year old cancer survivor named Laverne. She was there to play piano.

(A strange aside: i have only known one other Laverne. She's old and also plays the piano! Ok, that may not seem so weird, except the day before this, i saw her for the first time in a year. She moved to Washington, but came to visit Sunday.)

Laverne-the-Piano-player #2 sat and visited with me for an hour or so. Patrick came back briefly to deliver a sandwich, chips and water to me. My bad mood had dissolved by then.

i saw this quote on someone's blog:

"She's creative & interesting and people are naturally drawn to her passion for living"

i think this absolutely describes you, as well.
