I feel your pain, PeeWee!

Its so good to be home....even if some LOSER stole my bike last week! Right from my carport--the nerve!! How is it that i practically spend the summer in one of our largest cities and never encounter crime of any sort, yet come home to my little ole' town and experience it right on my own property???

I was really pissed at first, but i am starting to come to terms with it now. The thing that makes me the maddest is that i didn't lock it up...like we usually do. I didn't even notice it was gone for a few days, because i thought Brad had locked it away like he usually does. Hrmph! Also, i'm glad the LOSER (s?) didn't take anything else...

Brad and i got our bikes in 1996, the year we got married. We really splurged on mine because i fell inlove with it; it was a Schwinn reproduction of a 50's cruiser called an Electra. I was drawn to immediately because it looked like PeeWee Herman's bike. It had white-wall tires, chrome fenders and handlebars and a black & white leather seat. It rode with a comfortable bounce and had 6 gears. I spent my last few years of college riding to campus on it.

The last 2 years, i've used it on outings with Tready. We made many trips to campus to feed the ducks, or going to Kindermusic classes. This is what makes me the maddest still; times when i think it'd be a good time for a bike ride with him, then i remember; "Oh yeah....some LOSER stole it !!!"

After reporting it to police, i had to deal with knowing that its pretty unlikely i'll be getting it back. I still couldn't help myself from driving around town for a few days anyway, craning my neck to look closely at anyone riding a red bike.

It was after driving and looking for an hour or so, when it hit me: now i know how PeeWee felt! I never thought i'd identify with PeeWee Herman so well, aside from shared packrattery habits and impecable Bike taste...but now i can really understand how he felt in that cinematic classic PeeWee's Big Adventure. I'm going to have to watch it again, tissues ready for the scene where he collapses from shock outside the bike store when he discovers his bike has been stolen. I feel your pain, PeeWee!

I love PeeWee and I know all about your bike--well, not like where it is or anything. I, too, have a 50s reproduction Schwinn, but mine is just a cruiser. It has gotten kind of dull from being left out in the rain so much in Nacogdoches, but I would be totally heartbroken if it were gone. And! I had left it in the car port unlocked for a few days and we went to Waco and forgot it. I was so happy it was there when we came home, but within hours of us getting home (no joke!) Matt caught a guy in our car port who had just hopped on it and was about to pedal off! WTF?! He dropped my beloved Mrs. Breezy when he saw Matt, but man! Close call! Mrs. Breezy was the first thing I ever bought on ebay and we've been together since 1999, so I can't even imagine how you feel. This is a long comment. I am so sad your bike is gone and some jerkface crackhead is enjoying it. I hope you get it back, but if not, I hope someone Large Marge-s that guy's face. Jerk! I love you Ruby!

Is that your face on the PeeWee picture or is there just a striking resemblence?

I found your blog from Chrissy's blog...just wanted to say that I had a bike stolen in Nac too and my bf found it and rode it home. I know just the place to look and will let you know if I see anything that resembles it. (if I do, I'll ride it home and keep it locked up)

I still have a pair of Pee Wee jeans and a calendar from WAY back. He's the best :)

Hope things with your surgery work out and hope your bike turns up...will keep an eye out :)
