update on Tribute...

I knew i wouldn't be able to recall all the generosity during that last writing. On my way home, a big'un came to me: MUSIC! I have a few examples of how therapuetic this had been...in the form of:

....a mixed CD full of various tunes, new and exciting for this journey. I really appreciate the time it took to collect the songs made for this Red Shoes collection my friend made. Then, more specifically, Ben Folds is a new fave!.......he fits the bill for so many moods i've been in lately. It sure has made the BORING 59 N drive much more entertaining.

...Karaoke Night! My dear friend had just arrived in Houston for a family trip on a Tuesday, of all nights....and she knew i'd dig a Karaoke night out because she'd told me about this place for years! Even though this wasn't the ideal night, she was pretty determined to meet up. I thought about cancelling at one point because i was tired, but that "Kareoke-Fool" in me wouldn't hear of it, so i went...and i'm SO glad i did. it was the first week there without my boy, and it sure helped the time go by! We laughed, laughed, and (as strange as it may seem) even prayed together at the kareoke bar that night. AWESOME!

...The night my (mom's) friend's band The Pink Flamingos played and we got comped to get into the private party; that was a major pick-me-up. My friend, who is running the Newton Summer Hotel, and i got to have a fun time, starting with the moment we got there and they pulled us on stage...crazy musicians! We love you!

...Music is such a gift. It permeates MD Anderson mid-day, at various lobbies with volunteers' musical contributions. The coolest part is that they are usually survivors who are playing. Its awesome to see/hear; it adds to the atmosphere in such a profound way; when they are finished playing....things move along, but while they play, time stands still.

...And what musical tribute would be complete without mentioning my corniest new passion, 95.7 The Waaave. ??!! This station in Houston has become the soundtrack to my Sarcoma Summer. I will always remember the Al Jareau re-mixes, the hourly Sade and windchimes following all announcements...this station got me thru the Houston rainy traffic without developing Road Rage.
"95.7 the waaaa-a-ave....Trrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnng......"

I just read July 4th. I also listen to 95.7 the waaaaave. That's the music coming from the radio on baby stevie's stroller. We go walking to it every morning. I especially enjoy the "Sunrise Serinade" with Brian McNight. He's the black velvet fog. Hope all is well.
